Description/Job Summary

Farm Credit East is the premiere financial services provider to agricultural businesses in the Northeast. Qualified candidates for this position require a combination of strong tax and accounting background. In this challenging role, the ideal accountant will be responsible for the preparation of individual, partnership, and corporation tax returns.

This position is accountable for the delivery of financial services of high quality and value to customers within regulations set forth by the Farm Credit Administration, Internal Revenue Service and state and local taxing authorities as well as Association policies and procedures. With minimal supervision, depending upon experience, the incumbent is able to provide high value service to records and income tax return customers with a high level of quality and efficiency.

The employee strengthens and expands existing customer relationships and develops new relationships with non-customers as well as cooperating agencies. The promotion of good customer and public relations is important for the advancement of both the employee and the Association. The employee understands all phases of the financial services delivery process and takes responsibility for meeting the needs of both external and internal customers.

The employee shall perform all other duties as assigned.

Area:  The branch is located in a suburban area, with rural communities and urban amenities conveniently located nearby. 

Types of Agriculture:  The branch’s agriculture is diverse, including dairy, fruit, livestock, and cash crops. Farm related businesses are also within Claverack’s target market.


Depending upon experience, the incumbent is accountable for the following:

  • Direct Provision of Financial Services: Provide high value financial services to customers for a profitable fee. Accurately prepare tax returns, state and federal payroll filings, and other returns. Maintain current federal and state tax knowledge and have a thorough understanding of all tax and records software programs. Maintain proper documentation and communication with members and staff in order to respond to internal and external customer needs.

  • Marketing: Increase business by means of promotional activities and superior customer service. Provide value to customers with appropriate and timely products and services.

  • Customer Focus: Provide outstanding service and effectively address customer (both internal and external) inquiries and issues in order to maintain strong customer relationships.  Build customer confidence and satisfaction by setting, communicating and meeting achievable customer expectations.  Develop strong business relationships by taking responsibility, thinking creatively, seeking opinions and ideas from others and utilizing all of our products and services to create value for our customers while acting in a forthright and ethical manner.

  • Teamwork:  Display a positive attitude toward the job and contribute positively to the overall morale of the team and association.  Deliver feedback in a constructive and positive manner.  Deliver effective communication through adapting style, tone, and content to meet the needs of the team.  Assist other team/branch members when asked and offer help when time permits.  Contribute to the training and development of less experienced staff. 

  • Member/Community Relations: Demonstrate a strong commitment to the ag and local communities by expanding professional presence within our service area and contributing to the overall positive image of the ACA.  Attend appropriate functions to be visible in the community and develop relationships with suitable organizations.  Actively participate in industry and community organizations and issues.  Support and promote young, beginning, and small farmer initiatives at every opportunity. 

Required Qualifications

Candidates should possess strong tax, accounting, communication, organizational, computer and documentation skills.  


The expected employment period is January- April, with potential for this position to grow into a full-time role for the right candidate.
